Autumn Fashion Trends 2018

by | 4 Sep 2018

Now, whilst I don’t pretend to be a slave to fashion it is always interesting to see what new Autumn Fashion Trends are going to be available on our high streets this season. I have been wandering around the shops, looking online and reading what the magazines and fashion journalists are predicting. Here are my thoughts after dissecting what are likely to be the most wearable trends this season. So if you fancy something new these are the themes to be aware of….

The top Seven Autumn Fashion Trends this season

1 Animal Print

You won’t be able to miss this one! Every conceivable type of animal print will be available so there will be an option to suit all skintones – ocelot, snake, zebra, leopard or tiger print. Zara have a whopping 64-piece animal print collection this autumn, but other brands such as Sosander, Hush, Next, Wallis and Dune have plenty of choice. This print will be on coats, jackets, dresses, skirts, trousers and knitwear; if that all seems a bit overwhelming, you can add a touch of animal in your accessories – scarves, shoes, boots and bags.

Dress – Sosander £69 (Also available in Red)

Silk Scarf – Cabi £38

Boots – Hush £220

2 Pleated skirts

This trend has been around for a while but shows no sign of disappearing – and if you can find a pleated skirt in an animal print you are hitting 2 trends in one! It is also a versatile garment as you can wear it with a tucked in t-shirt or blouse now and with a short, chunky jumper once the weather turns colder. This style of skirt also works with different shoes and boots and the temperature changes. (The image below is showcasing trends 2, 4 and 7!)

Jumper – £65 and Skirt £59.50 Oliver Bonas (Available in October)

3 Shades of pink and red

From pastel pink to orange red there definitely is something for every skintone this season. The red hue is everywhere from dresses and jackets to suits and boots. These colours include – baby pink, fuchsia, merlot, burgundy, rust, tomato and bright red. Go play……!

Coat – Hush £170

4 Tweed and plaid

The traditional autumnal favourite fabric and print is back – in suits, jackets, dresses and accessories.

Coat – Marks and Spencer £99

5 Brown is the “new” black

Great for all of you with a warm skintone – tan, chocolate and bronze will be in the shops to tempt you away from black. You will see these colours used in the plaids and tweeds as well as in corduroy.

Plaid Jacket – Cabi £136

6 White boots and white stilettos

Horror flashbacks of the 1980s come to mind at the thought of these items of footwear, but with the advent and popularity of the white trainer with skirts, dresses and everything, it was only a matter of time…. My only word of warning is to be careful – people will look at your feet and wearing these will optically shorten your legs!

7 Other 1980s themes

We thought it would never happen BUT, big shoulders, suits, satin, slouchy boots, lurex and ruffles are all details to watch out for….

Top – Next £25

These are just a few ideas of what you will be seeing in the stores this autumn – which ones are you going to try??
